UE, CSN, FAT Reaffirm Solidarity in Montreal

In June, UE General President Peter Knowlton traveled to Quebec to speak to the 37th convention of the Conseil Central du Montréal Métropolitain–CSN. The central council represents unions affiliated to the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) in greater Montreal, representing more than 95,000 members in about 400 local unions.

Also addressing the CSN convention was Benedicto Martinez of the FAT (Frente Auténtico del Trabajo). UE and FAT have been working together since the early 90s, when we joined forces to oppose the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which we correctly predicted would hurt workers on both sides of the border.

CSN, FAT and UE have a long history of working together to support each others’ struggles and to fight for, as Knowlton told the gathering, “an economy based on working class rights” throughout North America. UE looks forward to strengthening these bonds of solidarity in the years and decades to come.
